Goodness, it’s been a little while Fresh Fruit Cleanse friends.

Glad to be back and writing again.

Soon, I will be posting on a bit more regular basis. Thank you for your patience while I get adjusted to my new life as a mom.

So, a few things I would like to share with you.

First of all, it’s almost summertime and, while many people are more active during summer months, we can also get much more relaxed with our nutritional choices and healthy disciplines. It’s good to live a little, have fun and not be so regimented with yourself, but, I would suggest the Zig Zag Method to stay on track with your goals for your health and well-being. I write about the Zig Zag Method in the Fresh Fruit Cleanse book. The Zig Zag Method means you stick to your healthy choices and focus 5 days a week, at least, but then allow yourself to sway from that and have a more indulgent meal (or beverage) a couple of days a week.

I know some people who refer to this as having a ‘cheat’ meal. But, I’m not fond of that terminology. Cheat implies you are doing something wrong. No you are not! You are living and enjoying life! I heard Tony Robbins tell about when he first met his wife, Sage. He said that he was so inspired to get to know her and date her because she seemed to be even more committed to health and well-being than even he was at the time. She was a reiki master, a massage therapist, etc and he was excited to get to be with someone who shared all the same values for healthy eating and living. Well, on their first date he was shocked when she ordered an ice cream sundae. He said he asked her, ‘What are you doing?!’ To which, she replied, ‘Living!’ I love that…exactly…LIVE…but…don’t sacrifice your healthy goals and focus with your living. Moderation is the key to balance and everything to enjoy life to the fullest in body, mind and spirit…

My son is just now at the age where he is wanting to eat more solid foods than even the pre-packaged organic baby food I was giving him. I have preferred to make my own food for him but sometimes something’s got to give in the life of a busy mom. Recently, however, he has clearly not been enjoying the pre-packaged food as much as he once did. He’s been wanting to eat anything I’ve been eating, so, I finally have decided I will start giving him that.

This morning as I was getting ready for work, I needed a fairly fast meal. So, I made cream of wheat, which, while relatively healthy, is made with a few things I try to limit in my diet, such as, gluten and dairy. I gave this to my son and he did love it. But, as I’m typing this post, it occurred to me that my son would also love something much more nutritious for him…the Breakfast Quinoa cereal from the Fresh Fruit Cleanse book.

I love this recipe so what I will do is make extra and that will be my morning meal for him, and myself, with a variety of fresh fruit mixed into it, such as, mango, strawberries and apple. This will be really good for him and I know he’ll love it. I also have been giving him one of my favorite smoothies for breakfast from the Fresh Fruit Cleanse book-the Orange Dream Smoothie with coconut oil. He LOVES it. So, I will continue to give him this, too, on some mornings, but, will add a little more sustenance to his breakfast with Breakfast Quinoa, as well.

So, here are both recipes. I hope you and your family enjoy these recipes, too.

Orange Dream Smoothie

Makes 4 Servings

  • 2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 2 large frozen bananas
  • 4 dates, pitted
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Add more orange juice if needed. Enjoy!

Breakfast Quinoa

  • 1 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup quinoa
  • fresh fruit (optional mango, apples, berries, goji berries, dates)
  • pumpkin seeds or slivered almonds (omit for small baby)
  • ground cinnamon

To cook the quinoa, boil the water and almond milk. Once the quinoa water is boiling, add the quinoa and cover, simmering on medium-low to medium heat until all the water is absorbed. Remove from the heat and allow to stand covered fora few minutes. Mix in the remaining ingredients and serve warm or chilled. This dish is also great with almond milk poured over top. Or, try fresh blueberries and toasted pecans with ground cinnamon for a blueberry delicious twist.

Also, I am not able to mention enough how important it is to drink the Detox Blast Smoothie.

Detox Blast Smoothie
Yes, green smoothies are great for you, but, what’s even better is making sure you are getting a whole lemon into your diet on a regular basis, at least once a week. While it’s not the most sweet, fruity tasting smoothie, its benefits FAR outweigh its taste appeal.
