Hello…how is everyone?
If you haven’t checked out the True Yoga Blog recently, I posted an article that I think is relevant to the Christmas season no matter what religion you are. The article is about my personal story of coming to know the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who I believe is the Son of God. As I said in the article, the popular yogini, Seane Corn, who is Jewish, even said her greatest role model is Jesus Christ. Yes, no matter where you live in the world, or what religion you are, what the world clearly needs is God and values back in our societies. We can not live in a Godless world…a world without God is a world without Love. If we want His protection in our life, we must invite Him and prayer back into our lives, our schools, our hearts and our minds so we can be healed and He can heal our world. There is evil in this world, that’s why we need God more than ever to walk with us and protect us each breath of the way.
Now, back to Chia.
As many of you know, I gave birth to my first child back in September. And, I’m grateful to say I only have about 5 or 6 more pounds to lose before I’m back to my pre-pregnancy weight. With a newborn at home, I’ve only made it to the gym a handful of times, but, I have practiced Yoga every morning and that’s been awesome to integrate core strengthening and all the other poses back into my Yoga practice. But, in addition to Yoga, I credit much of my pregnancy weight loss to the Fresh Fruit Cleanse lifestyle. The recipes in the book have helped me to shed pounds and feel energized and healthy, especially, the infamous Detox Blast Smoothie, which, I have written about many times…
However, one of the challenges I dealt with both during and post-pregnancy was constipation. 🙁 I hadn’t ever struggled with constipation before in my life. Most pregnant women find that constipation is a challenge and a fellow new mom said she also struggled with it for 6 weeks postpartum, as well. Same here.
I tried everything, also. I found many things worked once. For instance, a friend said dried apricots worked great so I ate those one morning and had the constipation relieved. But, that was the only time they worked. I even read an article about the fact that is often true…that many things in large quantities work once to relieve constipation simply because it’s a new food moving through your digestive tract.
Turmeric, as I wrote about in the previous post, is also helpful for constipation. I did find turmeric continued to give added relief, however, it still wasn’t as effective as I had hoped it would be on an ongoing basis.
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon this article about Chia seeds that I discovered, yet again, the incredible and powerful effects of the magical Chia seed. Here is the link to the article. As the lady in the article writes, it’s important to give the Chia about 6 or 7 days to work. But, as she wrote about in the article, I found, also, that Chia is the one food that has worked on a consistent basis to relieve constipation and improve regularity. Fresh fruit is great, also. And, if you aren’t breastfeeding then you could go through a Salt Water Flush as recommended in the Fresh Fruit Cleanse book, and, do a 1, 3, 5 or 7 day Fresh Fruit Cleanse. But, for a mom who is breastfeeding that’s just not possible. So, thank God for Chia.
I wrote about Chia seeds in the Fresh Fruit Cleanse book and I knew they were amazing at that time, but, I didn’t realize just HOW amazing they are when I wrote the book. Of course, Chia has been used for thousands of years to treat many diseases and disorders. Chia is a super food and is packed with antioxidants and is full of Omega-3s, which, we know are incredible for the health of your cells, skin, hair and eyes.

The word chia often conjures visions of those terra-cotta figurines that, when slathered with chia seeds, grow green hair. In reality, these healthful, edible seeds are a better source of omega-3 fatty acids than flax seed (the fats protect against inflammation and heart disease). Chia seeds come from the desert plant Salvia Hispanica, a member of the mint family that grows in southern Mexico.
In pre-Columbian times, chia seeds were a component of the Aztec and Mayan diets and the basic survival ration of Aztec warriors; they even played a role in religious ceremonies. Supposedly, 1 tablespoon of the seeds could sustain a person for 24 hours.
Aztecs also used chia medicinally to relieve joint pain and skin conditions. It was a major crop in central and southern Mexico well into the 16th century, but it was banned after the Spanish conquest because of its association with the Aztec “pagan” religion. Over the past few decades, commercial production has resumed in Latin America. And here is more good news: Insects hate the chia plant, so it’s easy to find organic seeds.
Like flax seed, chia seeds can be stored for long periods without becoming rancid and don’t require grinding (whole flax seed is tough to digest). Chia provides fiber (about 2 tablespoons–25 grams–give you 7 grams of fiber) as well as other important nutrients, including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, niacin and zinc.
Yes, Dr. Oz and Dr. Weil are huge fans of the Chia seed. Chia is also great for weight-loss because it’s packed with both soluble and insoluble fiber. Because of the nutritional content of Chia, you can actually thrive on Chia without much other food, although, that’s not recommended.
So, how do you eat the Chia?
You can add them to a salad or smoothie, but, most people don’t get enough of the Chia seeds when they simply sprinkle them in smoothies or salads. The best way I have found to eat them, so you are eating enough of them, is to make a Chia gel. (it’s important to soak Chia seeds otherwise the dried seeds can cause constipation if they aren’t soaked properly)
All you need to make the Chia gel is 2 Tablespoons of Chia seeds and about 1/3 cup of water. Allow the seeds to soak for about 10-15 minutes in the fridge and voila Chia gel it is. And, it actually tastes good. Well, it doesn’t taste like anything but it does have a slightly, very, very mild nutty flavor. It tastes just like a water gel with seeds in it.
So, simply eat a couple of Tablespoons of Chia gel once a day and you’ll be on your way to greater energy, vitality, well-being and beauty from the inside out, nails, hair, skin and all.
The Chia gel lasts for several days in the fridge, however, I like to make sure to make a fresh batch every couple days or so, if, I haven’t finished my previous batch. But, that hasn’t happened yet. So far, I’ve been eating it regularly and feeling great. I believe it does give you, noticeably, more energy. I think you’ll find you feel great if you start eating Chia regularly in a bigger serving than just a few sprinkles on your salad.
So, Chia, Chia, Chia all the way…everyday.
